RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The bass fishing team made the seven hour trek to Russellville to compete in the AFTCO Collegiate Bass Open put on by Cabela's. The tournament took place on Lake Dardanelle, a 40,000 acre impoundment on the Arkansas River.
The team had two boats compete in the 203 boat field. The team of Cordell Beckmann and Cale Jausel weighed 7.75 pounds on day one and 5.44 pounds on day two for a 13.19 pound, two day total. This landed them in 86th place. Nate Overocker and Hannah Hill weighed 6.00 pounds on day one, but struggled to bring in a keeper on day two. They placed 154th.
Despite the major drop in temperature and pouring rain, the fishing team gained some points in the school of the year race and hope to move up from their current position of 29th in the nation. The next event will be the SIU Carbondale Invitational held on Lake of Egypt over the coming weekend. It will also offer the team another chance at school of the year points.
