GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Greenville University men's basketball program has announced plans to begin their 2020-21 campaign. The contests against outside competition will be the first university-sponsored events for any Greenville University athletic program since the COVID-19 pandemic halted competition in March.
The Panther season will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 25, when they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for a contest against NCAA Division I Samford at 7 p.m.
On Friday, Nov. 27, the Panthers will compete against NCAA Division I Kansas City at 4 p.m. in The Negro League Baseball Museum Tip Off Classic hosted by Avila.
On Sunday, Nov. 29, Greenville will complete tournament play at Avila with a game against Southeast Missouri State, also an NCAA Division I institution.
The Panthers, who featured an offense that scored an NCAA-leading 132.6 points per game in 2019-20, will compete against a conglomeration of NCAA Division I and Division II institutions as they prepare for the SLIAC season that tips off on February 24.
Head coach George Barber enters his 23rd season at Greenville University. With an overall record of 284-256, Coach Barber has led the Panthers to three SLIAC regular season championships, one SLIAC tournament championship, one appearance in the NCAA Division III national tournament, and one berth in the NCCAA national tournament. He has earned the most wins of any head men's basketball coach in Greenville history.
