GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team picked up an important non-conference win on Saturday when they defeated Illinois Wesleyan 2-1 behind two goals from sophomore Jared McPeek.
The match proved to be physical with the teams combining for seven yellow cards.
Illinois Wesleyan managed to outshoot Greenville by a 20-8 margin, but the Panthers were up for the challenge, led by the goalkeeping of Michael Gonzalez in his first start of the season. Gonzalez provided Greenville with eight saves, and a late goal in the 86th minute was his only blemish.
Six of Greenville's eight shots came from the foot of McPeek. McPeek tallied three shots on goal.
The Panthers (3-2) travel to Carthage next Friday for a match against Hope, followed by a contest versus Calvin on Saturday.
