Men's track and field dominate the heptathlon at Principia

ELSAH, Ill. -- The men's indoor track and field team received a championship performance from Matthew Hughes in the heptathlon as he was Greenville's lone event winner at the Principia Relays.

Hughes set a school heptathlon record for total points with 4295, and he also recorded school record heptathlon marks in the pole vault and long jump.

Teammate David Martin was second in the heptathlon with 4039 points.  Martin clocked a heptathlon school record in the 60 meter hurdles.

Greenville's distance medley relay team provided a second place performance.  Nathan Potts, Alex Fink, Jaylen Shelton, and John Mangold finished the relay in 10:38.  Mangold had a one-mile time of 4:25 in the relay.

Thrower Ben Perry was second in the weight throw with a distance of 14.69 meters (48 feet-2.5 inches).

The 4x800 relay that included Collin Kessinger, Mangold, Shelton, and Tyler Kimes was third in 8:13.

The 4x200 relay was fourth when Jack Epley, Jackson Pierce, Keyron Scott, and Tawon Swinson recorded a time of 1:35.75.

The Panthers head to Illinois College to compete next Saturday.
