GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The women's basketball team opened their season with an 83-67 loss to Millikin at home on Friday night.
Millikin raced out to a 23-12 first period lead and held the advantage for the entire game. Greenville cut the deficit to 41-33 by outscoring Millikin in the second quarter, but Millikin added to their lead in the second half.
Greenville's Laura Goodnight was top scorer for Greenville with 11 points. Morgan St. James added a spark off the bench by nearly contributing a double-double. She was just short with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Greenville made 22-of-48 shots for a shooting percentage of 45.8. Millkin checked in with a 33-of-65 effort, which was better than fifty percent.
The Panthers (0-1) host Illinois College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
